Advanced Practice Provider (APP) – Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Team Lead

SSM Health, in partnership with SLUCarethe academic medical practice of Saint Louis Universityseeks a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to serve as the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Team Lead.
This is a unique opportunity to step into a leadership role within a high-acuity, specialized program delivering cutting-edge cellular therapy and transplant care in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
Requirements:
Experience caring for patients with malignant hematologic conditions
Documented leadership or management experience within hematology/oncology
Experience with cellular therapy
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
Current Missouri NP/RN or PA licensure
Position Highlights:
FTE Split: 0.75 clinical / 0.25 administrative
Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts per week, with weekend and holiday rotation
Practice Setting:Clinical and administrative time will be based on clinic needs and inpatient volume. The BMT Team Lead will on occasion need to fill for either area if there are staffing issues.
Procedures: Bone marrow biopsies and stem cell transplants
Core Responsibilities:
Utilizing an advanced level of knowledge and in collaboration with the physicians and multi-disciplinary healthcare team, demonstrates, initiates, and provides medical interventions in response to acute, chronic and/or resolving changes in patient conditions. Perform telemedicine and telehealth patient services when applicable.
Performs acute and/or routine, simple and/or complex procedures per policy including obtaining informed consent and utilizing universal protocol.
Assesses age-appropriate patients presenting for acute and/or chronic health events and obtains a personal medical history, appropriate physical examination and recording the resulting information. Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic agents. Demonstrates the advanced knowledge, communication, and critical thinking skills necessary to provide care.
Patient care planning by making comprehensive clinical decisions based on advanced diagnostic skills and professional judgment, reviewing results of diagnostic tests and procedures, developing, and implementing a treatment plan for the patient and/or family, and providing a wide range of interventions and patient education required to effect change.
Proficient problem-solving skills demonstrated by making competent advanced clinical decisions, utilizing appropriate resources, consulting with physicians, and involving leadership where necessary to create a positive patient outcome
Provides clinical leadership to the assigned team. Responsible for ensuring daily workflow is managed, opportunities are identified, and action items are acted upon. Responsible for recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and retention of team members. Provides ongoing education for current team members.
Responsible for building a highly functioning and engaged clinical team of APPs. Serves as a positive role model by promoting teamwork, cooperation, change management, positivity, and professionalism. Promotes positive health behaviors and self-care skills through education and/or counseling. Responsible for the process of monitoring and guiding staff performance. Remains constructive, positive, and effective in assisting the team members resolve problems in the most effective manner.
Manage all aspects of APP scheduling and staffing as applicable. Assumes responsibility to address any gaps in coverage.
Recognizes and utilizes opportunities to act as a change agent by introducing evidence-based innovations and professional education and utilizes expertise in APP rules and regulations to ensure APPs are being utilized effectively and are practicing at top of license.
Responsible for effective methods of formal and informal communication with staff so that dissemination of information / administrative decisions are conveyed in a positive and supportive manner; Accountable to motivate and support staff to achieve department/contractual goals and operational benchmarks.
Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
Performs other duties as assigned.
