Position Summary An audiologist is a licensed professional responsible for evaluating hearing, diagnosing hearing loss, and recommending appropriate hearing health care. At the John Tracy Center, the audiologist conducts comprehensive audiological evaluations for children ranging from 0 to 18 years old, with specialized expertise in testing infants and toddlers. When a hearing loss is identified, the audiologist provides recommendations for medical intervention or a hearing aid evaluation as needed. In cases of permanent hearing loss, the audiologist will refer the child for ongoing educational services. The audiologist collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team to discuss the diagnosis's implications and offer continued support through JTC’s Educational Services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
? Regular and dependable on-site work required to perform all job duties.
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Administration and interpretation of objective, behavioral, and electrophysiological measures of auditory function.
Examine patients with ear, hearing, or balance and other related difficulties and interpret results based on evidence-based practices.
Conduct pediatric hearing evaluations including auditory brainstem response testing, otoacoustic emissions, behavioral observation audiometry, visual reinforcement audiometry, conditioned play audiometry, standard audiometry, and immittance testing.
Evaluate the appropriateness of amplification for patients and make direct referrals to managing pediatric clinics in the community.
Conducting daily clinical tasks including: report-writing, consultation with families, referrals, and consulting with outside professionals (i.e. dispensing audiologists, schools, therapists, etc.).
Maintain and enhance professional relationships with JTC staff, medical professionals, community audiologists, and educational specialists. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families and JTC staff.
Assist Preschool and Parent-Infant staff and families maintain appropriate amplification for learning: troubleshooting equipment, meeting and e-mailing with parents, updating families’ primary audiologists (including Friday Family School).
Attend and conduct education services and interdisciplinary staff meetings, IEP meetings, and in-services as needed.
Contributes to departmental productivity and maintains all aspects of documentation, both patient and operational, following established JTC and departmental procedures.
Maintain knowledge of current research in audiology field and share information with Clinic staff.
Additional responsibility as requested by supervisors:
supervise specific areas of department work – loaner aids, etc.
assist fund development in fundraising, grant writing, and outreach
give tours of the clinic
give community in-services when requested
timely clinic needs
supervision of student clinicians
Other duties as assigned
A State of California Audiology license or eligibility is required.
A Doctoral of Audiology (AuD) is preferred, though a Master’s degree with relevant work experience will also be considered.
One to two years of experience working with a pediatric population is preferred.
The ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team is essential.
Strong verbal and written communication skills are required, along with excellent service skills, including active listening, the ability to communicate expectations clearly, and the capability to resolve concerns effectively.
Provide parent-centered services locally and globally to children with hearing loss, offering families hope, guidance, and encouragement.
