About the Team:
The Dallas Lab provides comprehensive laboratory and testing services coupled with our commitment to excellent customer service ensures that our clients? testing programs operate as efficiently and effectively as possible. Diagnostic microbiology concentrates on the laboratory analysis of clinical specimens in cases when an infectious disease is suspected.
Internship Assignment Summary:
Summer internship position designed to expand the knowledge and skills of the intern related to laboratory science career field through immersion in a support role in a fast-paced reference laboratory testing environment. This position will be in the microbiology department that provides testing in categories of bacteriology, virology, parasitology, mycology and mycobacteriology. The intern will be exposed to multiple aspects of the laboratory profession: sample collection, preparation, testing, quality assurance. The focus of the 12-weeks will include:
Train to prepare and process all types of clinical microbiology specimens such as urine, stool, and swab collections for testing and analysis
Engage in resolving problems with improper specimens for specific testing
Learn how to incubate specific media used to inoculate specimens
Trained to analyze some cultures after incubation
Maintain inventory of laboratory or instrument supplies and reagents
Education/Qualifications/Skills:
Pursuing a bachelor?s degree in microbiology or medical laboratory science (preferred), or in a biology, chemistry, or biochemistry program
Completion of a microbiology lecture or lab course (preferred)
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in fast paced, high-volume environment and while prioritizing and manage multiple tasks
Has experience delivering multiple projects in an academic or professional setting
Computer knowledge and data entry skills; experience with Microsoft Office applications
Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders and internal/external colleagues
Must be able to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Able to work independently under general supervision
Expressed desire and interest to work in a laboratory as a technologist after completing an undergraduate degree
About the Position:
Scheduled Days: Monday-Friday
Scheduled Hours: 7:00am - 3:30pm
Pay Range: $16.00-$21.00/hr
