Overview
Are you detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about maintaining the highest standards of healthcare? We’re seeking dedicated professionals to join our dynamic sterile processing team. In this role the individual is responsible for the process of decontamination, cleaning, processing, and the sterilization of supplies dispensed by the department. He/she assists with clerical duties and inventory/supply control. This person works under the direction of the Sterile Processing Coordinator and the Director of Surgical Services.
Responsibilities
Disassembles and cleans equipment using correct detergents and disinfectants.
Reassembles equipment / instrument trays per established guidelines-operates to test for proper functioning.
Replaces lost or damaged parts--if available / reports discrepancy to SPD Coordinator.
Reports inoperable equipment / instrumentation to the SPD Coordinator and transfers items to appropriate area for repair if needed.
Wraps package/tray and handles all items per established guidelines.
Marks items with identifying data and distributes or stores in designated area.
Sterilizes instruments / trays / equipment / supplies per established guidelines as related to department sterilizers.
Loads sterilizers in the prescribed manner and sets controls to specified time and temperature according to established guidelines.
Completes appropriate documentation records prior to sterilization.
Reads and initials sterilizer graphic to verify appropriate cycle and to provide required records.
Fills case cart according to established protocol list and/or preference/pick sheets.
Dispenses products required and assigns priority to emergent requests.
Maintains assigned work area and equipment in a clean and organized condition to guarantee required standards for handling of sterilized and clean supplies and to maintain a safe work environment.
Maintains an adequate amount of sterile and non-sterile supplies in stock according to established guidelines/par levels.
Operates computer via Cerner system to obtain pick sheets for surgical procedures.
Demonstrates complete knowledge and conveys understanding of infection control and universal precautions. Actively supports strict compliance to policy and procedures as outlined in department manuals.
Assumes responsibility for the department in the absence of the SPD Coordinator.
Qualifications
Three years experience working in the sterile processing field in healthcare preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology preferred as well as knowledge of medical and surgical supplies.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions and protocols
Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Effective communication with teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse staff members
Ability to lift and move heavy objects and stand for extended periods
Commitment to maintain confidentiality and upholding ethical standards in patient care
Credentials
Sterile processing certification preferred
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required, additional education or certification in sterile processing preferred
