Overview
Opened in 2007, Progress West Hospital is BJC HealthCare’s newest hospital in St. Charles County, featuring modern private rooms. It offers 24-hour emergency services and has partnered with St. Louis Children’s Hospital to provide world-class pediatric emergency care.
Progress West Hospital also provides surgical services, endoscopy services, a cardiac catheterization lab, medical/surgical inpatient services, diagnostic imaging, lab services, and the Advanced Wound Center, a specialty wound treatment facility with state-of-the-art equipment. Progress West Hospital recently completed an expansion of its Childbirth Center to include enhanced services for at-risk mothers and babies, with a newborn ICU that provides care for babies born as early as 32 weeks.
Progress West Hospital is a Certified Level II Stroke Center. The hospital’s medical office building houses offices for specialists in primary care, cardiology, obstetrics, pediatrics, and orthopedics.

Role Purpose
Provides support within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care to inpatient acute level patient populations from a remote monitoring center through telemedicine applications with real time communication via two-way audio/visual technology and in collaboration with the bedside patient care team. Utilizes patient EHR to support patient admission, education, and discharge planning, identify and interpret trends and acute changes in patient physiology, monitor compliance of care bundles and protocols, and collaborates with the bedside multidisciplinary health care team using effective communication and clinical decision-making skills. Serves as a resource for inpatient support for novice nurses who are developing their clinical competencies and decision-making skills. Provides guidance and assistance while giving additional support in the assessment, evaluation, and intervention responsibilities with patients.
Responsibilities
Supports the bedside staff for a large patient ratio to monitor comprehensive compliance of best practice protocols and care bundles aimed at reduction of Mortality, Length of Stay, Hospital Readmissions, and Patient Safety Events.
Provides patient education and support including verbal and written instructions. Assess the patient/family ability to receive education and uses appropriate tools and techniques. Takes initiative to problem solve and demonstrates critical thinking skills.
Skilled and comfortable with various technologies to coordinate patient care, including multiple software applications, computerized clinical guidelines, specialized telephone technology, video and image transmission, and more.
Supports the bedside care team in patient care activities within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care using the nursing process, clinical judgment, and decision support materials.
Provides consultation and second opinion to assist with clinical decision making, including managing inpatient patients whose condition may be deteriorating or who may require transfer to a higher level of care. Assists nurses with an appropriate plan of care related to a change of condition.
