Duke Primary Care Duke Primary Care is a broad network of community-based clinics that offer family medicine, internal medicine, pediatric, and urgent care services. With 400 providers in nearly 50 locations, Duke Primary Care is the largest primary care network in the greater Triangle. Our network saw more than 750,000 patient encounters in fiscal year 2021.
Our Duke Primary Care clinics provide personalized care for adults and children, from sick visits to preventive care, health screenings to immunizations, and annual exams to chronic disease management. Select primary care clinics also provide behavioral health, diabetes education, pharmacy, and other population health services. Duke Primary Care clinics are accredited and designated a Primary Care Medical Home by The Joint Commission.
Our Duke Urgent Care centers offer evaluation and treatment for minor illnesses and injuries 12 hours a day, seven days a week when a patient’s primary care provider is not available. Services also include certain physical exams and vaccinations. A pediatric specialist is available at select locations. Patients can walk in to one of our nine urgent care centers located throughout the greater Triangle or can schedule a virtual visit to receive care from the comfort of home.

The Duke Family Medicine Center is one of the largest primary care sites in the area with approximately 35,000 visits annually caring for >13,000 patients. It serves as an important link to Duke's excellent tertiary medical center and the community. The practice is modeled on a team-based approach to care that focuses on the needs of patients and evidence-based care. The practice serves as an institutional test-bed for innovative approaches to care and is continually developing new methods for prevention of illness and management of chronic diseases. Job Summary:
Provide acute care, chronic care, preventive care and prenatal care to new and established patients of all ages in a primary care setting.
Responsibilities include:
Conduct detailed medical history assessment
Conduct physical exams
Medication reconciliation
Order diagnostic testing (e.g., lab work, EKG, cardiac echo, imaging procedures, etc.) when indicated
Coordinate specialty referrals as indicated
Provide consultation to patient and/or family to include necessity, prep, nature and effects of ordered diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Provide patient and/or family education regarding diabetes, nutrition, smoking cessation, pain management, etc.
Follow up on ordered laboratory studies, diagnostic procedures, etc.
Prescribe treatment or medication when indicated.
Document all activity in patient's electronic medical record to include comments about diagnosis and prognosis, diagnostic testing, patient condition, treatments and response to therapies and interventions, etc
Participate in clinic research activities if needed.
Perform telehealth visits if needed.
Work with a supervising physician, other providers and colleagues in the practice.
Perform any other related duties required to service primary care scheduled or walk-in patients
Minimum Qualifications:
Education (No pending or recent graduates)
NP: Graduate of an accredited MSN or DNP Nurse Practitioner Program to treat all ages, i.e., FNP
PA: Graduate of ARC accredited Master's Degree Physician Assistant Program.
Certification
NP: FNP
PA: PA-C
Both: AHA approved BLS certification is required before hire. ACLS and PALS must be completed after hire.
Licensure
NP: Current RN license with NCBON or compact state with approval to practice as NP to treat all ages
PA: Current license to practice issued by NC Medical Board
Both: Current DEA license issued by State of North Carolina
Experience:
Experience working as a PA or NP in a primary care setting is required, 2 years preferred
Other:
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Works effectively in team environment
Familiarity with computers to include Microsoft Office products and EMR systems, preferably EPIC.
Hours
FT, salaried position
Ability and willingness to work Monday - Friday 8a-5pm, providing up to 36 hours of direct patient care per week
