Pharmacy Tech I, Duke Regional Hospital, PRN
Occupational Summary:
Perform under supervision a variety of technical duties related to preparing and dispensing drugs in accordance with standard procedures and techniques.
Work Performed:
Set up, package, dispense and deliver unit dose medication in accordance with standard procedures and techniques; mix prescribed drugs with intravenous solutions and prefill syringes under supervision of a pharmacist.
Replenish drugs and other pharmaceutical supplies on patient care units; keep records on narcotics and control drug distribution.
File prescriptions, price drugs and prepare and maintain patient profile records. Set up, prepare and package standard bulk formulations as directed.
Stock supplies and assist in taking inventory.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training:
Work requires high school or equivalent plus successful completion of a formalized Pharmacy Technician program (i.e., Durham Technical Institute 9 month program), or one of the following equivalents: 1. Completion of one semester of a pharmacy-specific program which normally begins in the third year of study at UNC and Campbell University (note that the initial two years of general college coursework in these programs is not pharmacy-specific and that completion of the initial two years by itself, will not be sufficient for qualification); or 2. Completion of the third year of study in a B.S. curriculum emphasizing chemistry and math; or 3. Completion of the Armed Forces Corps' Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technologist training; or 4. Completion of a technical school or hospital training program with a program content equivalent to Durham Tech's program content; or 5. Two years' experience acquired on the job in a similar hospital setting with at least 3 months experience labeling with a CRT and/or typewriter.
