This position is located at the Cheyenne VA Health Care System in Cheyenne, Wyoming in the Radiology Department operating under the direction of a Radiologist as an advanced ORT technologist, specializing over 25% Computerized Tomography (CT) and General Radiology with introduction to MRI. Independently performs standard general imaging and complex CT examinations including non-standard and advance protocols such as emergency and inpatients. Duties may include, but are not limited to: Advise radiologists or referring physician of significant abnormalities that would require their immediate attention and visualization while the patient is undergoing the respective CT examinations. Coordinate with the Anesthesia clinic to ensure sensitive cases are properly performed. Assists the radiologist in the performance of biopsies and catheter placements for the purpose of diagnostic treatment. This requires the use of surgical sterile techniques, syringes, needles, contrast, etc. Program technical factors by interrogating or calibrating computer console and responding to differing body habitus and medical condition with appropriate inputs for optimum study acquisition. Assist in preparation of procedure manuals and in devising and/or modifying procedures as necessary in accordance with ACR standard or other directives. Monitors special equipment such as monitors, pulse oximeter, ECG, infusion pumps, oxygen equipment, and respirators. Sets up and prepares sterile surgical fields and helps prep patients such as arthrogram procedures and CT biopsies. Demonstrate the ability to perform quality post-procedure reformats and send them to PACS when necessary. Register during check-in and properly edit exams upon completion work for appropriate workload capture and credit. Requires rotating on-call duties and overtime for emergency coverage. When in call-back position, if called or paged, the response time should be no more 5 minutes to answer the call and not over 30 minutes to reach the medical center. Tours may change depending on needs of the service or medical center. Participates in the training of physicians, students and other radiology technologists so that these individuals may acquire an understanding of the principles of routine images, MRI and CT, how it relates to other diagnostic exams, and the proper acquisition of specific modality imaging. Proper orientation and competency of new staff are shared responsibilities of current incumbents to ensure new staff contributes to team production as quickly as possible. Incumbent shall advise management of new staff's orientation and competency status. Participates in lectures and demonstrations relating to the technical and clinical operation of Rad/CT facility. Responsible for obtaining or requesting his /her own continuing Education to include BLS. The employee attends all required in-service , safety, and infection control courses. Performs routine clerical procedures, either from internal or external source, for the purpose of maintaining accurate records so that easy recall of patient examinations may be achieved. Performs quality assurance testing on the MRI/CT unit using phantoms, test tools, test check lists, etc. for the purpose of assuring peak performance of the equipment. Maintains records of the quality assurance testing so that easy reference is available should servicing be necessary. Coordinates and perform scheduling of patients and consults with physicians, clinical and administrative personnel pertaining to the next day and future day's availability for patient examinations. Maintain required licensure to include ARRT, special modality certification (CT), BLS/CPR, TMS completion or other hospital training requirements.
