Your Role:
Procedural LPNs spend 50% or greater of their time supporting clinic procedures within the scope of licensure. These responsibilities require additional training and competency validation. All patient care activities are undertaken with the delegation/supervision of a licensed professional in accordance with VUMC standards and licensure regulations.
Department Summary:
Dermatology is the branch of medicine dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of skin, hair and nails. The field of dermatology has subspecialties including pediatric dermatology, dermatologic surgery, laser and cosmetic dermatology, and dermatopathology, to name a few.Our experts in general dermatology treat common conditions including acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea and warts. We also offer care related to cancer -- melanoma and lymphomas -- and cosmetic dermatology. Below is a list of additional services our department specializes in.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborates with patients/families and health care providers in the delivery of health care services.
- Partners with the healthcare team by following established plan of care to ensure patient progress for effective outcomes.
- Support plans to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.
- Works under the supervision of physicians/RN providing comprehensive nursing support throughout in-clinic procedures. Assists with positioning, skin/site preparation and draping of patient Also assists with hemostasis, wound exposure, and handling of sutures and tissue under the direction and supervision of the proceduralist.
- Responsible for their assigned room preparation, setup and clean-up, and turnaround time . Establishes and maintain a surgically clean environment to reduce the potential for patient infection through the application of the principals of asepsis. Effectively communicates pertinent patient family information to healthcare team.
- Demonstrates and understands principles of sterilization in preparing items for procedure use. Operates clinic specific sterilization and HLD equipment according to manufacture requirements and departmental policies. Demonstrates and understands principles of decontamination and standard precautions.
- Ensures implementation of standards within the quality assurance monitoring process and improvements are followed. Monitors record keeping of repairs, maintenance, quality assurance measures are up to date and documented daily. Maintains and reviews missing instrumentation. Puts in requests for missing instrument orders and instrument par needed to maintain functioning instrument trays. Monitors and inventories the supplies and ensures instrumentation is available for clinic procedural areas.

Able to train and educate peers by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.
LPN CARE PLANNING (INTERMEDIATE): - Participates in the development of the plan of care in consultation with the licensed healthcare team. Demonstrates ability to forecast resource needs, identify distinct tasks, set priorities, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work for a single functional area. Merges diverse points of view into a coalition with shared goals and objectives. Plans for and anticipates events outside of immediate responsibility. Anticipates problems and obstacles before they arise. Able to absorb changes to major assignments while maintaining a high level of performance. Competently handles multiple assignments and projects simultaneously. Sets priorities with a proper sense of urgency and importance.
CLINICAL PATIENT DOCUMENTATION (INTERMEDIATE): - Role models patient documentation in practical applications of a complex nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering patient documentation services without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate peers by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job. Contributes to the nursing assessment by collecting, reporting, and recording objective and subjective data in an accurate and timely manner.
CLINICAL COMPETENCY (INTERMEDIATE): - Demonstrates mastery of nursing interventions (such as wound care, point of care testing, vitals signs, etc.) in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering vital sign services without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.
PROCEDURES KNOWLEDGE (INTERMEDIATE): - Demonstrates mastery of procedures knowledge in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering procedures knowledge services without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.
SURGICAL EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE (INTERMEDIATE): - Demonstrates mastery of the equipment and related devices. Has solid knowledge of performance criteria. Able to use the equipment to accomplish advanced tasks associated with the specific devices. Easily resolves equipment problems.
ENVIRONMENTAL STERILITY & SAFETY (INTERMEDIATE): - Demonstrates mastery of environmental sterility and safety in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering environmental sterility and safety services without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.
EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE - (INTERMEDIATE): - Demonstrates mastery of preventive maintenance in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully maintaining equipment, products, or systems without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to conduct predictive maintenance on core products and equipment.
