The Registered Nurse assigned to the Medical Surgical Unit, is a professional nurse with a broad-based clinical knowledge that enables him/her to effectively provide care to a veteran population with widely diverse medical and surgical diagnoses. Recruitment Incentives: Authorized. The Nurse position offers a $5,000 Recruitment Incentive with a 1 year service agreement. The incentive is authorized for highly qualified candidates. Only applicable to candidates external to the VHA. Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. This position will float to various areas with a focus on the acute-care units. · Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care based on age-specific components · Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction · Considers all characteristics of the individual, including age and life stages, state of health, race and culture, values, and previous experiences · Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines · Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team · Core elements of performance include knowledge of unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives as well as customer service programs · Ability to interpret cardiac rhythms · Ability to triage both minor and major medical needs in the Emergency Room setting ·Ability to administers medications, conscious sedation, IV medication, and assists provider with emergent procedures per established policies, protocols and guidelines · Experience in post anesthesia care nursing and recovery skills. · The candidate must possess strong critical care clinical skills, organizational, and interpersonal skills Work Schedule: This position is full-time. 12-hour shifts including Day shift, Night shift, Evening shift, Weekends, and Holidays. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. To participate in the program, you must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA Policy 1021 and submit your application within four months of appointment. The final award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office.
