The Radiologic/Ultrasound technologist works under the direct supervision of the Director of Radiology and under the general supervision of the Radiologist, performs radiographic/CT procedures and ultrasound exams to assist in a diagnosis of disease and injuries. The Radiologic/Ultrasound Technologist works effectively with patients and patients' families and maintains a cooperative relationship with interdepartmental personnel.
Performs radiographic procedures as prescribed by a physician
Determines proper techniques through the selection of voltage, current, and exposure time
Positions patients for the proper view of the affected area
Instructs patients as to the proper physiological requirements for the procedure
Performs ultrasound examinations such as, but not limited to: abdominal scans, retroperitoneal scans, obstetric and gynecological scans.
Qualified personnel may assists physician in such procedures as needle biopsies, amniocentesis, renal biopsies, etc., scans patient, marks patient’s body, assists as necessary.
Prepares contrast media and administers to patients either intravenously or through other body cavities
Operates portable radiographic equipment for the performance of procedures throughout the hospital, including the cardiac care unit, recovery room and the emergency room.
Monitors the operation of the equipment
Contacts nursing stations to verify patient schedules, medications, and special requirements or restrictions
Assesses the patient’s condition prior to administering a contrast media or performing the radiographic procedure
Charts patient’s contrast administration and completes x-ray requests for billing
Ensures that any required consent forms are signed prior to the examination
Actively participates in the quality-assurance monitoring and recording efforts of the department.
Prepares all films so they can be read by the Radiologist
Schedules patients for exams
Enhances self-growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
Office duties, which includes completion of all necessary
Radiologic Technologist and Ultrasound registration required
