DESCRIPTION: A laboratory in the Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center seeks a highly motivated Research Assistant to perform laboratory research to advance our understanding of the function of the viral capsid during HIV-1 infection.
Minimum requirements are a B.S. degree or equivalent in chemistry, biology, or a related field and two years of research experience. An understanding of biochemical principles and experience with biochemical and molecular biology methods is a plus, as are strong quantitative skills.
With moderate supervision, perform laboratory experiments including molecular cloning procedures, cell culture experiments, and quantitative assays of proteins and nucleic acids.
Maintain accurate and complete written and electronic records of experimental procedures and results.
Communicate research results to the Principal Investigator and in weekly group meetings.
Assist with maintenance of laboratory equipment and inventory of laboratory materials.
Help ensure compliance with institutional policies and regulatory reporting requirements.
