Provides direct patient care activities. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range in their assigned clinical area. In addition, provides front line office support for the Vascular Surgery Clinic. Coordinates and performs front line office activities in an effective and efficient manner for the department.
Works primarily in a nursing assistant role; provides assistance as a patient access representative as assigned; works as a backup for answering incoming phone calls as assigned.
Functions under the delegation of the Registered Nurse (RN) of the Vascular Surgery Clinic. Reports directly to the Manager of Vascular Services.
Responsible for ensuring the very best patient/family experience by optimizing all customer interactions. Fosters a positive work environment through mutual support and cooperation and adheres to GHS and department specific Service Standards. Performs duties to provide the highest level of quality that will maximize patient satisfaction in accordance with the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Health System.
SPECIFIC POSITION DUTIES:
Works primarily in a patient care role within the nursing assistant scope of practice. Performs office functions of the Patient Access Representative as needed
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Demonstrates competence in written, oral, and electronic communication skills (intermediate typing, keyboarding, and computer skills).
Demonstrates advanced knowledge of medical terminology, insurance referral and pre-certification processes, coding, EPIC applications, IDX, and SMS.
Demonstrates office skills (proficient at electronic scanning).
Demonstrates ability to work independently, set priorities, multi-task, and provide problem resolution.
Demonstrates customer service skills.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or GED required.
Completion of Nursing Assistant training or minimum six months of related healthcare experience required.
Completion of PAR training within six months of hire required.
Minimum six months nursing assistant experience.
BLS certification required.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is typically performed in an office or clinic environment.
