Dean of the School of Medicine The University of Missouri - Kansas City Kansas City, MO The University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Medicine welcomes applications and nominations for its next dean. The school is unique in academic medicine: it pioneered and has continuously evolved a six-year, dual degree program that has enabled uncommon success of graduates. The mission of the school, since its inception, has been to provide high quality physicians for the greater Kansas City region, with an emphasis on diversity. Today, the school anchors the Health Sciences District in Kansas City. Consisting of two of the school’s clinical affiliates—Truman Medical Centers-University Health and Children’s Mercy Hospital—as well as UMKC schools of medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, and nursing and health sciences, the District is a central priority of University leadership and civic leaders, who look to increase impact in research, access, education, economic growth, and health outcomes. The college seeks a dean who will relish the strengths and opportunities in a school that has expanded the boundaries of academic medicine from its inception and possesses the capacity to elevate the entire enterprise. UMKC and its partners achieve excellence in research, patient care, education, and community engagement by deliberately aligning effort, so the dean’s ability to set priorities based on shared interest is essential. The dean will play a public role with university, state, regional, and national stakeholders to further the mission of the school and university and advocate for resources and support for its important work. Candidates must have a medical degree and demonstrated experience in advancing medical education, research, and patient care. The ideal candidate will have a track record of innovation in health professional education programs and growing and developing extramurally-funded research programs.
